The Ultimate Glue..

The ultimate glue for woodworkers to use would IMHO have to be Tite Bond III.

Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue is the best glue for I have ever used.. and the first glue I reach for when gluing up anything that may come in contact with food as it is FDA approved for indirect food contact (cutting boards). .
It is the first one-part, water cleanup wood glue ever offered that is proven waterproof. From the specs on their home page, and on the bottle itself, this waterproof formula passes the ANSI/HPVA Type I water-resistance specification.. which means it is really good for use outdoors.  It also offers superior bond strength, longer open assembly time and lower application temperature. Which means it is strong , you have longer to muck around with the alignment and you can use it in winter… well winter here in Queensland anyway..
Titebond III is non-toxic, solvent free and cleans up with water which makes it safer to use than traditional waterproof wood glues. As it provides strong initial tack, you will have more time to attach clamps without it moving around. It sands easily without softening.  All these features make it the ultimate in wood glues – ideal to use inside and out.

So lets wrap this up:

Waterproof…….. able to be used for exterior projects.

One part…………no mixing.

Water cleanup… speaks for itself … easy.

Non toxic………. again speaks for itself.

FDA Approved… can be use on projects that come in contact with food… eg. cutting boards.

Sands easily ….. won’t smear and affect the finish.

Superior bond strength… won’t fall apart.. and that has to be good.

For those of you, like me, who want more info about the specifications of this product… I have added a link to the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Yeah, I use titebond III. It’s easy to use. Strong. Has a longer glue up time than I and II. (Though still <20min.) Much cheaper to buy in in 4L bottles.

Though, as my interest in handtools increases so does my desire to try hide glue.
