In 1935 the Lesiure League of America published Harry J Hobbs booklet “Working With Tools.” This is a 90 page guide to building things with hand tools. Thanks to a fellow lumberjock OttoH the following pics are a copy of the pages listing tools required to set up a small workshop..
To buy all of the hand tools on the list of tools he suggests for a small shop and additional tools it would have cost you $33.75. Since the average yearly wage at that time was $1,600 a year, to set up a complete shop of hand tools it would cost 2.11% of the average yearly wage.
