Flood.

As many of you will have seen on the News, much of Queensland is flooded…

Fortunately, until recently, the only water problem we had, was a small stream running across the back yard. No leaks in the house and able to come and go as we please.

After heavy downpours all last night and most of the day, we are officially flood bound.. all roads around our house are covered with water and closed to traffic.. There are many people in the same boat… no pun intended…. and are unable to go to work… many businesses have closed for the duration… even the local MacDonalds… shock horror…

Last night just about to shut up the shop and  I had a visitor… a small brown snake… trying to keep dry… only about 700 mm long and about 25 mm thick… only a baby… but a Brown Snake all the same… I high tailed it out and down to the house leaving everything open… hoping it would just leave…

About an hour later I went up to lock up and saw my unwelcome visitor slithering out of the main door heading for a spot in the garden… locked up real quick and back to the house… had a quick look around this morning and did not see him.. or her…

All the water running down from the properties up the hill was finally too much for the drainage around the shed and in it came… poured in around the corner of the roller door… soaked the floor on half the shed to a depth of 1/2 inch…

Had to suspend any thought of woodworking until I had the drainage dug deeper and the water mopped up… at least the floor got a good washing… I was lucky that I had spent some time recently clearing all the timber out to the wood store and the only bit that got wet was some 4 metre lengths of Huon Pine…they will dry out ok…I also had all the power leads run overhead and not across the floor…

Finally finished getting all the water out and thought… might be time for a quick beer…

Power went out… so I sat in the dark… yes it was the middle of the day but still dark… and had a beer anyway…

I am not complaining as there are many who have no house no shed no car… all washed away.

Our thoughts go out to them…
