Double thumbs down…

I usually do not like to bag anyone..or use this forum for that purpose….. but it seems that there are those out there who like to take your money and then find a way to give you nothing in return… and I am not talking about Politicians … although as they are not going to try and fix the problem .. then they too are part of it…

I am talking about used car warranties…

You know the ones.. they are the ones that the car dealers sell you.. and I don’t mean only the backyard bludgers.. I am talking the huge high profile dealers … New car dealers with a used car business as a sideline…and very lucrative at that…that sell you their warranties…all good and well but …

Caveat emptor…

While it is illegal to force  you have your  NEW car serviced by the DEALER who sells you the NEW car…by threatening to void your NEW car warranty… this is not the case with these dealers who sell you a USED car made by the same Manufacturer as the NEW cars they sell… or others for that matter…

If you sign up for the Used Car Warranty from many of these large dealerships…. read the fine print…

You will VOID the USED CAR WARRANTY they sell you…. [ not the statutory warranty] if you:

Leave the State or Provence and do not return to the dealer for servicing…even if it may be thousands of mile away…

You do not have the said dealer service your car … even if you have it serviced by a dealer who sells the same model car and has service technicians trained by the same company that makes the car you have bought…… and have to drive by several dealers who sell  the same model car… to get to the dealer that you bought the car from…

This is such a wonderful piece of marketing…

Buy the warranty… for a lot of money… and then we expect you to pay our dealer service centre for ALL your services for the term of the warranty…usually 3 years…..or we will VOID the warranty…

This sound like a great deal for the Dealer… they can guarantee that their service department is kept in work… and as long as you pay their prices for servicing… they will honour the warranty….

BUT

THIS SOUNDS SUSPICIOUSLY LIKE EXTORTION… TO ME ANYWAY…

WHAT DO YOU THINK…?????

A big double thumbs down from me….that is for sure… HEY…

It’s like the mob, you pay them for protection against their trash. Have a Happy Easter Larry and Family. Lest we not forget the true nature of the holiday. God Bless you all, mike

The last 2 cars I bought new were both Mazda, as much because I swore off buying another Holden because of this practice, and their attempts to rip me off during those services. One service they rung and said the service was done, but would I like the ‘optional’ brake fluid change: if I don’t get it my extended dealer warranty would be cancelled. At 50,000 they said my 4 brakes needed new pads, for $500 extra. I got an independent assessment, and at 110000km I finally changed the front pads only, because the rear still had 90% wear left.

For the sake of a bit of brake fluid, and some cheap brake consumables, they missed out on 2 car sales (so far), and my contempt of Holden customer service became assured.

I am not going to name the dealer… but suffice to say they sell MAZDAs
I like Mazdas but not from this particular dealer…
We bought a Mazda from another dealer and they have been fantastic…
So it is not really the MANUFACTURER… it is the DEALER…….although they do not try to stop this practice…
Further more… at least half the people I have spoken to have had this happen to them or someone they know… how widespread is this ??
