First V-carve Sign…

This is the first sign made on the CNC router… I have made heaps on the laser but this is definitely quicker…

IMG_3331 IMG_3332I sprayed the engraving with matt black paint and wiped off the excess… it did penetrate the timber somewhat  but the over all effect is pleasing…

Timber used was New Guinea Rosewood… dimensions… 660mm by 130 mm by 20 mm

  1. Wayne says:

Try a coat of sealer of some kind over the whole surface before you do the engraving. That will make it easier to wipe off the black paint.

  2. Richard Smith says:

Larry, try spraying with shellac before the black paint, that should stop the unwanted penetration.

Nice! I can imagine combining the CNC and the Laser to create some really appealing signs.

  4. Bec says:

Can you use a low tack painters tape, engrave through that, spray then remove the mask afterwards? Btw, what is the useable bed size of your cnc router, Larry?

  5. Lazy Larry says:

Not sure the tape will not lift with the router bit…
The bed on the CNC is 1000 by 600 but I can tile the tool path for larger projects.
