Boxes, boxes and more boxes…

As well as the 47 keepsake boxes and 20 coffee condiment boxes I have on order this month … decided to make some on my own account for stock to sell at the markets…

Here are a few that I took to Carseldine and Red Hill markets this weekend…

Tessellations…

Playing around with the laser engraver and some veneers,  this is what I came up with…

Engraved and cut quite a few more and will make them into a wall hanging or a tray…

Two towers of boxes

Now half way through the order for 45 boxes… update now 47 on order…

This is what 20 boxes start out as…

IMG_4370The camphor began as a slab… after dressing and resawing to just under 10 mm the boards are cut in a specific sequence to ensure the grain runs all 4 corners.

IMG_4372Dovetail joints of course… the tails have been cut…

IMG_4373After the pins are cut the carcasses are assembled… ready for the grooves to be cut inside top and bottom… to receive the ply wood base and the book matched panels of the top…

IMG_4374A different view of the towers…

And here in the foreground you can see the ones made last week…

IMG_4375Including one of the finished boxes…

IMG_4376Finally a selection of different box carcasses I am making on my own account… not ordered… for sale…

The Gifkins Dovetail Jig is certainly getting a royal workout…

Lazy Larry meets Theo the Woodturner.

Yes folks that’s right… none other than Theo Haralampou aka Theo the Woodturner.

Always a pleasure to catch up with Theo… usually at a wood show where he demonstrates techniques in Woodturning…Not that we had much time to chat… was a very busy day at the market and I even sold a few items…

Some of the new Picnic Wine Tables found new homes..

IMG_4360As did a number of the large Camphor Laurel chopping boards, and some of the smaller items on offer.

A need to be organised.

After cleaning the workshop the other day… due to a little flood from the unusually huge rainfall…

I had a need to organise all the drawers in the shelving units…

It does take a little getting used to …but having some semblance of order must in time increase productivity… not having to spend a large part of the day looking for things…

Just have to remember to put things back at the end of the work day…

Oil and felt…

Finished boxes… 2 in number… Oiled with Penetrol penetrating oil and buffed with wax… Added a piece of stiffened felt cut to size perfectly with the laser. IMG_4311 IMG_4312

Two down, only thirty eight to go, sigh.
